Kim Jong-min “My Goofy Character? I Can’t Get Over It!”

Singer-entertainer Kim Jong-min talked about his goofy character.
A press conference for SBS <Law of the Jungle> was held at Seoul Marina located in Yeouido, Soul in the afternoon of March 26. Producer Kim Jin-ho attended the event along with Lee Sung-jae, Raymond Kim, Ryu Dam, Lim Ji-yeon, Jang Soo-won, Kim Jong-min and ‘ZE:A’ Park Hyung-sik and shared their thrilling new experience in Jungle.
Kim Jong-min stated, “I and Jang Soo-won started to talk informally for the very first time in the jungle. He is younger than me but has been bothering me with the fact that he is sunbae in the music industry.”
He said, “People say that I’m a strange person. I’m not sure if it is something I have to feel oppressed about. People do things because they are physically apt to do so, and I don’t because I am not” and explained why he earned the nickname ‘goofy’. He said, “Even if I try hard, I can’t do it. There are some things that I’m not born with. I’m sure there are some aspects which I can do well” and laughed purely.
He was asked which one is more difficult, <1N2D> or <Law of the Jungle>. He said, “<1N2D> is just over in two days, but <Law of the Jungle> lasts for more than a week. If <1N2D>is like a sprint, <Law of the Jungle> is like a marathon”
Meanwhile, the new season of SBS <Law of the Jungle>, starring Kim Byung-man, Lee Sung-jae, Lim Ji-yeon, Seo In-kook, Park Hyung-sik, Son Ho-jun, and Kim Jong-min, premieres on March 27 at 10pm.

We Asked ‘Law of the Jungle’ PD, Why?

Producer Kim Jin-ho of <Law of the Jungle> has been adding some seasonings to the show. We wondered what he had in his mind.
Kim Jin-ho has been in charge of the show’s production since <Law of the Jungle in Borneo>. He was asked many questions by the press. He showed the survival of friendship in the last season which took place in Palau, and this season, he cast a celebrity chef for the first time in the show’s history. Both of his works are quite different from the previous seasons.
Producer Kim has decided to take another adventure with the show. What does he really have in his mind. Here are the answers.

Q. How do you feel after filming <Law of the Jungle in Indochina>?
Kim PD: It was fun. Please watch the show as you enjoy it. We will show our first ‘cooking broadcast’ in the history of the show. So, please look forward to it.

Q. You’ve cast ‘a celebrity chef’ Raymond Kim for this season’s episode. Why did you combine the cooking program format into the show when there are many things to show in Jungle?
Kim PD: We did not infuse cooking format because cooking is the trend in the variety show. I’ve wanted to cast a chef since a year ago. What I can show you in Jungle is very limited and viewers have great interests in food. I thought it would be great if chef could create a new food out of ordinary ingredients. People can get vicarious satisfaction.

Q. I heard the cooking was quite fancy. Did you provide the ingredients? Usually, you don’t provide them.

Kim PD: You will find out on the first episode. Each member could take their survival kit with them. Kim Byung-man prepared a knife, and Raymond Kim prepared his cooking tools. Since he is a chef, we allowed him to bring his seasonings but we didn’t expect to him that much. We let them use all of them because Byung-man crew complained us badly.

Q. <Law of the Jungle> not only portrays the survival, but also tries various changes within the show. Despite the good viewers rating, why do you try that?
Kim PD: I guess its every producer’s instinct. Besides the viewers rating, producers believe that they should not get behind other producers. They pursue for changes.

Q. Compared to the viewers rating, the show does not create any issues.
Kim PD: We will try to catch that too.

Q. While talking about making an issue, we should talk about something. Your show has great format, and has a lot of things to present, but why is it always the female cast’s body figure and looks that become the center of the topic?

Kim PD: We did not intend it. We always think about making issues. However, what’s more important is the quality of the show. Our job is to make the recorded video look even more interesting. An issue comes the next. We do not want to produce something in order to make an issue.

Q. <Law of the Jungle> has many fixed viewers although it is scheduled on a competitive time slot on Friday night. However, as time goes by, viewers can tell the ‘law’ of the show. As thrilling elements get reduced, you try variations. Tell us about directivity of the show.
Kim PD: It is our homework. We will search a new location and show how members survive in the new environment. I’m sure we will show more improved contents in terms of technology and missions.

Q. Coincidentally, the new episode of tvN <Grandpa Over Flowers> premiere on the same day.
Kim PD: Although that’s our rivalry show, I don’t try to be too conscious about its presence. Both shows have different viewer’s demographics, and have different colors.

SBS <Law of the Jungle in Indochina> premieres on March 27 at 10pm.
