INTERVIEW WITH KIM JONGMIN PART 1

Kim Jongmin, who gained attention as a dancer for the choreography team 'Friends' & his entertainment career in earnest through Koyote third full-length album 'Passion' in 2000. As the leader of Korea's longest-running mixed group Koyote, Kim Jong-min, who shows explosive energy on stage, also shines in entertainment shows.

Kim Jong-min, who has gone beyond a 'variety blue chip' to a 'variety trend' with his clumsy and inexperienced but lovable charm and unique entertainment sense, is a living witness and symbolic member of KBS2's signature variety program '2 Days & 1 Night', winning the grand prize at the 2016 KBS Entertainment Awards and being named one of the 50 people who made KBS shine in 2023. In addition, with his consistent performance every year, he has been nominated for the 'Entertainer of the Year' award at the KBS Entertainment Awards since 2021.

Kim Jongmin, who has been with '2 Days & 1 Night' for 18 years, is also active as an MC on another long-running program, Channel A's 'I'm Going to Meet You Now' (hereafter referred to as Lee Man-gap). 'Lee Man-gap', a communication variety program that seeks harmony between the South and the North, since 2021.

Kim Jong-min said about his positive personality, "I have a mindset that I shouldn't treat everyone as an enemy. At first, I used to get angry and annoyed, but as I got older and started living in society, I realized that getting angry and annoyed only hurts me. As time goes by, I naturally get older, especially after becoming the eldest on '2 Days & 1 Night', isn't this thought becoming more solid? Kim Jong-min explained, "That's not true. I try to shake off the burden of being the eldest. There's no such thing as having to do something because I'm the older brother, but I do try to make my younger brothers comfortable. That's why I don't punish or scold them even when they make a mistake. That's because if I do, they become intimidated and can't show their full self."

Not only his positive personality but also his invisible efforts are supporting Kim Jong-min's 'long run'. Kim Jong-min, a famous 'dancer' in the entertainment industry, is still keeping an eye on dancing. He said, "My dancing now is very different from when time he younger was dancing hard. It's physically difficult and sometimes my body doesn't keep up, but I don't feel obsessed with learning the latest trendy dances perfectly, but that doesn't mean I rest or become lazy. I think everyone can relate, but if you rest or become lazy, your body won't keep up. That's why I'm trying hard to do various things."

The combination of personality, energy, and effort has created the Kim Jong-min of today, and no matter what program, MC, or guest he teams up with, he creates tiki-taka and chemistry to bring laughter. Kim Jong-min said, “I don’t know why I work with the national MCs so much, even if I try to analyze it. They always look at me favorably, so I’m so grateful for that. While working with the national MCs, he could naturally become greedy for the position of main MC, but Kim Jong-min was not like that. He said, “I could do it if they asked me to, but I’m not confident that I can do it well. And I also have to do my main job as a singer, so it’s hard to do just one thing. I’m very satisfied with where I am now.”

Regarding his 'entertainment philosophy' of not asking for a raise in appearance fees first, especially because he is not greedy, he said, "I think it's something I learned because I started my social life too early. If I ask for a raise in appearance fees or something like that, I have to do that much and show it, right? I think I felt a lot of pressure about that.
