The cast of the fourth season of the travel show "2 Days & 1 Night," took home the grand prize at the KBS Entertainment Awards, Saturday. This is the second time that the program has taken the honor since its first win in 2011.
The "2 Days & 1 Night" team went head-to-head with prominent comedians and TV personalities such as Kim Sook, Shin Dong-yup and Jun Hyun-moo. Its cast includes: actors Yeon Jung-hoon and Na In-woo, singer-TV personality Kim Jong-min, comedian Moon Se-yoon, singer DinDin and singer-actor Yoo Seon-ho.
"Four years ago, we kicked off our fourth season amid anticipation, anxiety and fear," Yeon said as he accepted the award at KBS New Wing Open Hall in Yeouido, Seoul. "I never knew that a moment like this will come ... I really want to appreciate the cast and crew of '2 Days & 1 Night' for creating this miracle."
Kim added, "The fact that we have won the grand prize for the second time gives me a lot of thoughts. I was in my 20s when I first joined the show, but I am in my 40s now. Sometimes I feel that it's hard on my body, but I am still very thankful to be part of this program."
"2 Days & 1 Night" is one of the most-sought-after travel shows in Korea, in which celebrities explore every nook and cranny of the country to introduce diverse tourist attractions.
Premiered in 2007, its first season — starring celebrities like Kang Ho-dong, Lee Soo-geun, Kim Jong-min, Eun Ji-won and Lee Seung-gi — scored the highest viewership rating of 43.3 percent, according to Nielsen Korea. Its success propelled its producer Na Young-seok to stardom, leading him to become one of the country's most acclaimed TV producers. Recently, he launched a series of hit shows such as "Earth Arcade" (2022-23).
Yeon Jeong-hoon said, “I first started season 4 of ‘2 Days & 1 Night’ 4 years ago with expectations, worries, and fears, but I never thought this moment would come. For 4 years, I traveled with my younger siblings and met people who came sightseeing with local people. “They welcomed me very warmly. I think that was a great help. I’m so thankful to the ‘2 Days & 1 Night’ family and my younger siblings for giving me such a miraculous experience,” he said, bursting into tears.
Kim Jong-min said, “This is my second time receiving an award like this as a group. I don’t usually think about it much, but today I really thought about it. I wonder how much I would have loved it if I had been with my brothers in seasons 1, 2, 3, and 4 since 2007. “I think of many of my older brothers and younger siblings, from Hodong to Seonho. I started on ‘2 Days & 1 Night’ in my 20s, but now that I’m in my 40s, I’m having a hard time. I’m so grateful to the members for being with me.” reported.
Moon Se-yoon gave up the microphone to his younger siblings, saying, “I was lucky enough to receive the grand prize in 2021, and I’m so happy to be able to receive the trophy as a team rather than as an individual.”
Na In-woo said, “We are so grateful for this award. We always thought it was a great honor to be able to make viewers laugh by laughing, traveling to places, and sharing memories. We are so grateful to be able to receive an award like this.”
DinDin said, “After filming yesterday, I came here today and caught a cold, so I got IV fluids and came here. Actually, it’s a program that first started in 2007, so I think there are some systematic differences compared to a new program that started now, but we’re working hard like this. We’re working hard until the end. “So I will show you why this program still exists to this day,” he said, reaffirming his determination once again.
Finally, Yoo Seon-ho said, “It’s been a little over a year since I started participating in ‘2 Days & 1 Night’ with my brothers. We’ve been together for a short time and a long time, but to receive the grand prize like this makes me feel amazing. I can do it with my brothers. “I’m so happy, and we meet once every two weeks, and I think it’s really a great memory and time. I hope I can spend a long time with my brothers in the future,” he said.
