[Interview] The Secret to Koyote’s Longevity (Kim Jong Min have mention a bit about 1n2d shooting with Best Friend)

Being with someone else inevitably requires sacrifice to some degree. You have to sometimes make compromises, and be considerate, wearing smiles even when you′re in a bad mood. In other words, you can’t always have your own way.

In that sense, Koyote is a rare case. Though there were several member changes early on, the current three have been together for nearly 10 years, as the group debuted in 1988 and solidified its lineup in 2004. Since then, the group has remained the same, as if a family related by blood, and is one of the very few groups from the 90s that is still active today.

Many groups end up disbanding when they′re at the peak of their popularity, because the members either don′t want to share the spotlight, or they′re at odds with one another beyond repair.

But none of this was apparent in Koyote′s members, Shinji, Bbaekga and Kim Jong Min. Strangely, even the blunt words directed toward each other give off affection and warmth for each other. Shinji, Bbaekga, Kim Jong Min are like a family more than a real family.

“Actually, we three are so different. Ironically, we get along well because we are different. And we’re never jealous of each other. We always wish for the other’s luck and try to take care of each other. Kim Jong Min played a big role as a leader in forming such relationship,” Shinji said.

“Like a saying that office changes manners, Jong Min has been doing well as a leader. Honestly, at first, I sometimes looked down on him unknowingly. But now I count on him more than anyone else, and I always talk with him whenever I have problems," said Bbaekga. "I wasn’t forced to feel that way. Having been with someone who is faithful, naturally, I started to have faith in him. That’s why we′ve been together for this long time,” Bbaekga said.

The trio clearly built their friendship on the basis of trust and consideration for each other. On top of it, the absence of jealousy and greed has most likely attributed to the fact that they′ve stayed together for such a long time.

They laughed away rough words exchanged half in jest and kept chatting in a light and cheerful mood throughout the interview. They revealed their high expectations for the group’s new song, Repeat the Same Words, which is written by hit-maker Brave Brothers, saying, “Brave Brothers boasted that the song would rank third at least.”

Koyote didn’t hide their hope that they′d be able to show their strength as the one of the oldest groups in K-Pop.

“These days, it’s hard to find mixed groups. That’s why I want to show we’re doing well,” Shinji said.

“I have high expectations as Brave Brothers guaranteed that [the song would] rank third at least,” Bbaekga said with laughter.

Kim responded, “On the ranking, he might have said it half in jest, half in earnest. I just hope many people listen to our song and enjoy it. The other day, during the shooting of 1 Night, 2 Days, our song was played during the wake-up time, and everybody liked the song. Lee Seo Jin especially liked the song. (laugh) I′m anticipating that it might lead to a good outcome because those with years of experience said they liked the song.”

The song, created by hit-maker Brave Brothers, maintains Koyote′s style, while still reflecting on the latest trend of the music scene.

But perhaps most significant of all, the group recorded the song while fully enjoying the experience - so we believe that Koyote, who took many hopeful steps recently, will reaffirm their popularity and strength this year.
